Hello, My new iMac arrives next week. I'm planning to purchase an external Thunderbolt 3 enclosure to initially hold a Samsung 860 EVO 2TB SSD (for my samples) and a 4TB Hard Disk (for audio/photos). I will be running in a Non-Raid configuration. Can anyone offer any suggestions regarding.
I have an iMac from the middle of 2011 and do not want to open it up to retro-fit an SSD, however it came with Thunderbolt connectors so I figure that could use an external enclosure to boot from via Thunderbolt. All of the Thunderbolt enclosures are really expensive and limited at that, but the StarTech Dual Bay External Hard Drive Enclosure caught my eye as it allowed for two SSD/HDD and it would allow for daisy chaining (as well as including a Thunderbolt cable to boot).
- Here is an Amazon comment concerning the Trebleet enclosure connected to a Mac Pro 2013 'I bought this case in hopes of using it with a Samsung 960 NVMe 2280 m.2 SSD, that I wanted to connect, via Apple's thunderbolt 3 to thunderbolt 2 adapter, to my trash can Mac Pro.

I was looking at the Crucial M550 as I don't want to go below 1TB (which is what I have internally now anyway) and know that the brand has a good reputation, it's been on the market for a while now. The thing is that although the enclosure plays well with SATA3 (6Gbps) I will not attain the true speeds of the SSD through Thunderbolt, but much more than the 75MBps I get now from my internal HDD that came with my iMac, around a four to five fold increase if reviews can be believed.
There is also the SAM 850 Pro 1TB from Samsung, but this costs a fair bit more and am not sure I would get the benefit as it's being run through a Thunderbolt cable? Direct message for instagram 3 1 2.
